Rio+20 Internship - Jugendliche ziehen Bilanz
Youngsters and Scientists take stock
Sustainability is an important factor for a liveable future. On the occasion of Rio+20 in June 2012, the BMWF (Austrian Ministry for Science and Research) initiated in cooperation with Young Science and OeAD (Österreichischer Austauschdienst / Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research) the initiative Rio+20 - Jugendliche ziehen Bilanz (Youngsters and Scientists take stock).
Several Austrian research institutions welcomed these young “pre-scientific” colleagues in order to get insights into different areas of sustainability research and projects enhancing sustainable development. Five youngsters, who were interested in urban and social sustainability, chose Oikodrom for their internship.
One group of the interns concentrated on “Urban Gardening – Sustainable Development and Visions for the Future”, the other group focused on “Health and Sustainability – Health promoted in Sustainable Development Projects”. The students carried out their own small research and analysis supervised by Madeleine Salinger and Caroline Tagesen. Their aim was to develop visions and future scenarios with regard to their research question within the frame of future sustainable development.
The research results were submitted to the OeAD which will publish selected reports of the different internships. The publication will be presented in public at the final event on December 12th, 2012.
